Why Do You Need A Blog Post Ending In 2025?

While you may have gotten away without writing a blog post conclusion in the past, in 2025, the blog post ending is as important as your headline and intro. It’s your opportunity to create a final impression with your reader. Either they click and engage with more of your content or they click away.

Here are the top reasons why ending your blog post with a good conclusion matters:

1. It Increases Engagement

You set a core message in the introduction, and your reader has skimmed through the body. The blog post conclusion brings them back to your initial message while inviting them to an action.

It could be a comment, a share, or a click to your next post – all are engaging your readers. According to Nielsen Norman Group, users typically scan digital content in an F-shaped pattern, meaning many jump to the end. Make your ending count!

2. It Boosts Your SEO

Blog post endings are the best spot to include relevant internal links to related posts. Increase your pageviews and time spent on your site, and have search engines love you!

Orbit Media reports that updating and improving old blog posts, including blog post endings, can increase traffic by up to 106 %.

3. AI Checks Out Your Blog Post Endings

Google’s SGE, ChatGPT and Perplexity scan your blog post conclusions.

Having a consistent, good blog post structure matters. Include clear blog post endings with questions and summaries. They help AI understand and recommend your post in response to reader questions.

I like to think of the conclusion as the spot where I can position my topical authority and relevance.

4. It Invites Conversions

Your blog post ending is where you can encourage your readers to join your newsletter to check out your freebie, contact you, or discover your online shop. A strong CTA (call-to-action) placed here converts way better than a buried one mid-post.

5. It Leaves A Lasting Impression

Let your voice shine in your blog post ending. You can drop the formalities a bit here and be more personal with the reader. Use your brand voice, and write as if you were talking with a friend. It could be something as simple as an encouraging vision of what they will do with your content.

Now let’s look at how you can implement some of these suggestions into your blog post ending.

How To End A Blog Post To Generate Engagement

When you start to think about the goal of your blog post, it becomes easier to write a blog post ending.

Do you want to build awareness of your blog by creating a post that goes viral? Or do you want the reader to subscribe to your newsletter?

The purpose of your blog conclusion should always be to add an interactive prompt for your reader.

When I started focusing on creating an engagement opportunity for my readers, I noticed:

  • More comments
  • More social media shares
  • More subscribers to my email newsletter

This list of 10 ways to end a blog post gives you ideas to experiment with to see what works with your blog niche and your audience.

1. Concise Summary And Key Takeaways

Your readers have just finished skimming the blog post, and now they need a brief summary to remember your points. So do AI tools such as Google’s SGE and ChatGPT.

Your blog post ending should include a short recap and 3 to 5 key bullet points. A few tips for a brief summary blog post ending include:

  • Headers that address the ending: “A Recap” or “Key Takeaways”
  • Short, actionable bullet points (no longer than a sentence)
  • A bullet list of points
  • Bolded phrases that stand out for easy scanning

2. Ask An Open-Ended Question

How do I end a blog post to get comments?

Ask an open-ended question (one that doesn’t result in a yes or no answer) that’s related to the post’s topic. This creates an opportunity for engagement and feedback from your readers.

This is one of the easiest and most engaging ways to end a blog post.

An example of a good open question for this post would be:

What are the ways you’ve ended blog posts that are successful?

You also find out what other questions they may have, sparking new blog post ideas.

Answer questions and comments to show you are listening and just as engaged as your readers are with you. They’ll keep coming back for more!

3. Promote A Free Offer Using An Opt-In Form

Number two on my list of best ways to end a blog post is to offer something of value.

What better way to grow your email list than by sharing an awesome free download?

For anybody who wants to grow their email list, this is one of the best ways to end a blog post. I like to add one that’s related to the topic that adds value to my reader.

You can offer a downloadable file or an invitation to an email course. It could be as simple as an invitation to get weekly or monthly newsletter updates.

The key thing is that it needs to enhance your existing blog post or be interesting enough to get somebody to enter their name and email address.

Use words and text that show that your freebie will help solve a problem that your readers may have.

4. Request Readers Share Your Post On Social Media

One of the ways to end a blog post is to encourage readers to share your content with others. I’ve seen some bloggers have a short one-line paragraph with this written:

If you found this post useful, please consider sharing it with others! Thank you!

It’s a nice way to nudge somebody to share your blog post.

Chances are, since they bothered to read to the end, they found it interesting enough. So, why not click to share it on social media?

This is why all the content that you create needs to be so interesting that the reader will scroll down, read it and WANT to share it.

It’s a great way to increase your blog’s visibility and traffic.

One tip: if your sharing plugin lets you place your sharing buttons at the bottom of a post and allows you to customize messaging, do it! I use Hubbub Pro, which allows me to do this:

5. Add A Pinterest Pin Image

This is my favourite way to end a blog post, because it is so engaging.

If you’re wondering how to end a blog post in a way that helps build organic traffic, prompting your reader with a Pinterest pin image is the way.

Pinterest is a huge driver of blog traffic. You want people to share your pins with others.

Pinterest images are large (usually 1000 x 1500 or larger). So they take up a whole lot of space in a post. The good thing is that you can scale them back to a smaller size if you’re using WordPress blocks.

They have you scroll down a bit to get to the text if they’re placed near the top of a post.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t place them near the top, but a Pinterest pin will most likely get shared if you place it at the end.

Why? It’s because somebody loved your post and wanted to save it or share it with others.

As with social media requests, I find that when I post the pin at the bottom of my post, I have the best chances of getting that pin pinned.

Creating gorgeous Pinterest pins is a key way to grab the attention of your readers and those using Pinterest.

It’s yet another way to build visibility for your blog and drive traffic.

6. Create A Blog Post Conclusion With An Invitation To Reach Out

Want to know how to end a blog post so that people connect with you?

Open yourself up to one-on-one questions!

If you run a consulting business or a coaching business alongside your blog, you may want to entice potential clients to reach out to you with their questions.

Offering a brief but helpful response to one question for free builds trust in you.

It’s a lead magnet that helps you build a positive relationship with a potential customer.

If you see the opportunity to soft-sell further services, this is a great way to get a potentially interested customer to connect with you one-on-one.

To invite readers to reach out to you directly, I’d recommend using an italicized or boxed paragraph (with perhaps a different colour, which you can easily do if you’re using WordPress blocks).

Here’s what I’d do:

Have more questions about how you can end your blog post effectively? I’d be happy to help you out. You can email me your questions by entering the form on my Contact Me page.

In this case, I made my font larger (you can do this with WordPress blocks) and made the background of the block one of my brand colours.

This is a blog post conclusion that’s inviting and engaging!

7. A Call-To-Action To Purchase

Have a related digital download or a product that your readers would consider purchasing? This is the place to include an image and link to the purchase page.

This is a great way to end a blog post if you’re focused on monetizing your blog.

Keep it simple and sweet with a link or clickable image to your shop or product pages.

For example, I would share a post to a relevant ebook or course that I have on my Confident Blogger Academy site.

Another alternative is to add affiliate links. Some plugins, such as Lasso, are great for creating galleries and displays with affiliate products. Including these at the end of the post as recommended resources or products can generate a conversion to a sale.

8. A Link To Other Useful Sources

One of the best ways to end a blog post is to provide additional links that add value to your content.

Perhaps you don’t have all the answers, but another blogger or organization might have fantastic information.

Don’t be afraid to share amazing content from other sites.

Not only does Google look at whether you’re linking to reputable, well-ranked content, but your readers will see you as an invaluable resource of information on any given topic.

They will bookmark your post and come back for more!

9. Invite Your Reader To Join Your Facebook Group

If you are running a Facebook group, your blog post ending is the perfect time to invite readers to join. They’ve just read great content from you – now’s the time to invite them to join others interested in your niche topics.

This is also an invitation to engage with you and get their questions answered.

I’ve included a banner image and an invitation that automatically gets added at the bottom of my blog post ending. It looks like this and is clickable.

10. Tease Your Next Post Of A Blog Series

If you’re writing a blog series on a topic, one of the best ways to end a blog post is to tease what’s coming next.

Ideally, summarize what they’ve learned so far and include a few questions that are answered in the next blog post. For example, “However, what should you do next? In the next blog post, we explore…”

11. Include A Poll Or Survey

Want to capture email subscribers and get insights from your readers based on the blog post topic? Embed a very brief poll or survey at the end of the blog post.

Although this is rarely done, it’s a smart way to determine if your content has had an impact while also building your email list.

12. Share A Personal Anecdote And Vision For Your Reader

Ending a blog post with a simple anecdote or personal story builds a stronger impression on your reader. Add to what you hope the reader does with your content, and you’ve got magic.

This is your last opportunity to create a positive impression with your reader and to build your personal brand.

FAQ About Blog Post Endings

How Long Should Your Blog Conclusion Be?

There is no standard length for a blog conclusion. Instead of worrying about the length, consider whether it’s succinct and reiterates your main point. Does it have a few concise summary bullet points? Do you have an engaging call-to-action? Does your reader get a dose of your blog’s brand personality?

What Are Cute Ways To Sign Off A Blog?

Use a personal approach, as if you were chatting with a friend about your topic, and it’s time to end your conversation.
