Key Considerations When Blogging About Money

Before you start using this list of personal finance blog topics to begin writing blog posts, there are a few things to consider.

This is a very sensitive topic that can affect people’s finances if your advice doesn’t work for them.

This is why I strongly recommend these tips to my blog coaching students with personal finance blogs:

  • Share your credentials. Have legitimate credentials to be able to share information about money. Add these to your About page and your Author description. These keywords are important for SEO purposes as well as the credibility factor.
  • Disclose your position as a personal finance blogger. Include a Disclosure at the beginning of each post that ensures your readers are aware that the content is for informational purposes only and it doesn’t constitute as advice. You’re not their personal finance consultant.
  • Have proper legal pages on your site. With a disclosure you need to have a link to your Disclaimer. Make sure you have properly written mandatory legal pages that will protect you and your blog both legally and financially. It’s very easy to get sued when your content may potentially cause financial ruin (when a reader does something stuip and is looking for somebody to blame).

For the last point, I use Legal Page templates that are customizable to your part of the world.

They are written by a lawyer who also blogs and runs an online business, so the information in them is relevant to blogs and websites.

They are affordable and a wise investment that lets me sleep easily at night, knowing I’m legally protected.

TIP: The VIP Comprehensive Legal Bundle is the best deal and includes 16 different agreements and contracts that you may need as a blogger with a business.

Before you go, here’s a free workbook for writing your About page that addresses your reader’s needs and highlights your credentials in a natural flow.
