Years ago, I wished I had hired a blogging coach. Being at a crossroads with my Suburban Tourist blog about four years ago, I was almost ready to quit blogging and move on with my life.
It was lacking direction, and I was losing interest in continuing. My blog traffic was flat, and I wasn’t making much money with it.
I didn’t know what my new “niche” would be, or how to monetize my blog and make it into a successful business.
Things would have moved much faster if I had chosen to work with a blogging coach who knew what they were doing. Somebody who could give me inspiration and an outsider’s perspective on my potential.
Since you’re reading this, most likely you have a similar dilemma. You’re probably wondering if it’s a good time to begin work with a blogging coach.
I say, YES! If you’re truly invested in growing your blog into a business, then get help from a credible expert who’s done it all before you!
Not convinced? Let me answer some of the niggling questions you might have so that you’re ready to hire a blog coach.

1. You Want To Start A Blog But Don’t Know Where To Begin
You may not have started a blog yet, but the idea of starting one is terrifying!
You’ve read all the blog posts but have no clue where to begin. The idea of going self-hosted, and trying to deal with a hosting provider has your blood pressure rising.
The good news: when you work with a blog coach, you get many questions you might have when starting a blog answered quickly.
After all, we’ve been there!
When it comes to the technical stuff, we can provide you with tips on what your hosting provider can do to resolve any issues. We can provide you with articles and posts that help explain things in detail. Although we won’t make the fixes for you, we can help you find the solutions you need.
We’ve been there, so we know what you might be going through!
Working with a blogging coach when you start a blog, they help you:
- See the big picture and the overall plan to get from the initial steps to your blog launch
- Fine-tune your goals, define your target audience (reader) and niche, and craft a mission statement that provides the foundation for all your activities
- Create a content plan or editorial calendar
- Determine the best blog promotion strategy
- Get started with monetizing your blog right away!
The clarity you get through blog coaching services is invaluable when you’re starting out.
Hiring a blog coach or blog mentor can get past the stressful set-up part and get on with the fun stuff!
PRO TIP: Working with a blog coach will help you determine which hosting provider to go with to start your blog. We’ve had experiences with hosting providers, or have had clients who dealt with them. For example, I can tell you from experience that both NameHero and BigScoots are great options for long-term blogging, especially if you want to start an online business.
2. You’re At An Impasse With No Vision
If you’ve been blogging for a while, sometimes you need help to get back on the right track.
Like me, you’re struggling to figure out what to do next.
Perhaps you’ve dabbled a little bit with monetizing your blog but you aren’t seeing much success.
You might be ready mentally to make it into a business but you just don’t know what to do first!
Not to mention, your blog’s niche or category is just not working for you and you need a complete overhaul.
Working with a blogging coach, you’ll get clarity on your blog’s purpose and how to create a plan to take it to the next level.
An external set of eyes (mine are great for this!) can spot issues and opportunities that you’re missing. Because you’re too close to it all! Your blog is your baby.
When you hire a blog coach, you can also get a new vision, a fresh strategy and tactics to implement.

TIP: I offer blog audit services that go through your site with a fine-tooth comb, review your branding and help you create a strategy that will get you on the right track to creating an online business!
3. You Want To Make Changes Fast
If you’re ready to make changes, but don’t know how to do it all, it will take time to research, try things out and experiment.
What if I told you that you could speed up the learning process?
Since a blogging coach is an experienced blogger who’s done it before, you’ll be gaining their knowledge and tips fast!
They’ve made mistakes so that you don’t. This is why smart people work with coaches to learn from other people’s mistakes… and successes!
You’ll also get access to somebody who knows people who can help you solve your problems.
4. You Work Better With External Help And Inspiration
Some people hire a blog coach because they need a little push to get things back on track. Or they need a cheerleader who gives them enough inspiration to keep going.
Even if it’s just a virtual hug to get you through a tough blogger burnout moment!
Some need to report to a blogging coach to get the feeling of accountability.
Blogging is solo work, so you can get so into your blog’s details that you don’t see the big picture.
This is why when you work with a blog coach, you get a fresh approach and more importantly inspiration.
Getting tips, strategies and information on the best blog tools and resources can light a fire to get things done.
TIP: Some bloggers choose to have an ongoing relationship with a blog coach.
This is worthwhile if you feel the need to bounce ideas and your progress off of somebody who can help you adjust your approach as needed.
I offer a 3-session package for this very purpose.
5. You’re Not Inspired To Create Amazing Content
Another key reason to hire a blog coach is to get excited about blogging again.
The cornerstone of fantastic blogs is great content.
But what if you’re stuck in “blogger’s block?”
You may no longer be interested in your blog niche. Or you’re not sure what to write that will appeal to your audience.
Working with a blog coach, you’ll be able to address blogging burnout.
We’ve figured out how to get past writer’s block and be passionate about our blogs again. We can share this passion with you too!
It may require adjusting your current blog’s focus a bit. Or it may mean completely scrapping your current blog (sell it to make some money!) and starting a completely new one.
Whatever the need, working with a blogging coach can make this process much smoother.
6. You’re Not Getting The Results You Anticipated
You may have started making changes to your blog, but the results are falling flat.
Whether it’s improving your blog traffic or monetizing your blog, things are not going as you anticipated.
Working with a blogging coach or blog mentor can help you fine-tune your activities to get you on the right track to achieving your goals.
We’ve done it! We’ve tried it and we know what works and what doesn’t.
We can assess what you’ve been doing and provide you with tips that get you on the right path to getting the results you want.

7. You Don’t Know Where To Start!
Help! It’s overwhelming. You have an idea of what you need to do to fix your blog, but you don’t know what to do first.
Do you focus on old content that needs a revamp and extra promotion? Or do you create new content and promote it?
It might be all the time you need to get our Pinterest account cleaned up and full of amazing pins.
Or you need a complete overhaul and don’t know it. A blog audit and some blog coaching strategy sessions might be what you need.
What a coach can do is help you prioritize your activities and provide you with a schedule that works wonders for your stress levels.
They can also help you create a plan and provide tips that give you that ‘A-ha!’ moment.
8. You Want To Make Money With Your Blog
It can be an exciting goal, but it’s also daunting. How can you start making money with your blog?
You’ve seen Pinterest pins claiming you can make $XXXX a month blogging, just like this blogger did.
You’re wondering if it’s even possible to make money with a blog!
How do you do it with your blog and your blog niche?
Working with a blog coach you can identify the best ways to monetize your blog. It doesn’t matter if you’re a new blogger or have been blogging for a while.
Getting external help with the nitty-gritty of affiliate marketing, brand collaborations and selling services or digital products will make the process easier.
TIP: Keep your expectations and goals realistic. There are many variables that make you successful in monetizing your site.
What To Look For Before You Hire A Blog Coach
Before you hire a blog coach, you need to do a little bit of research.
There are hundreds of blogging coaches out there, many of which are fantastic.
Yet, some have barely a year or two of blogging experience, and may not be as knowledgeable as they seem. Faking it until you make it is a dreadful side-effect of blogging.
To find the right blogging coach for your needs:
- Check their blog posts. Are they full of information you can use? Or are they small tidbits of tips that lead to a sales page?
- Does the content they share actually make sense? Do they come across as knowledgeable?
- Are they coming across as trustworthy, open and helpful? You want to connect with a person you’ll LIKE working with for the long run.
- Do they specialize in topics in which you require help?
- If they have a testimonial page, are the bloggers providing their recommendations linked to their websites? Or are they just names?
- Check Moz’s free SEO checker tool to see if their coaching website and blog site have been around for a while: check the DA, how many links are pointing to it and how credible they are. You want to be working with somebody who has real experience.
- Do they use a coaching agreement, and if so, does it protect you both legally and financially? Is there a clear scope of work?
- Are their service offerings priced fairly? Sometimes cheap isn’t always best. (Base this on what they’re offering, their experience, their expertise and their results).
This last point is tricky. Consider how long they’ve been blogging, their level of expertise and additional background experience.
For example, I have a background in public relations and marketing, working in agency environments.
This gives me additional insight that’s invaluable when you’re working with brands for sponsored collaborations and tips on how to brand your blog and tell your story effectively.
If you’re thinking of building your blog into a branded business, I can also help you learn how to work with clients and market yourself.
Check Out Free Resources A Coach Offers
One of the things you may also want to do before hiring somebody is to look at the quality of their work.
Where strong blog coaches should excel is in their “lead magnets” – i.e. the freebies they offer their readers.
For example, one of my top free offers is a workbook and template for how to write an About Me page – one of the toughest things most bloggers face.
You can check mine out here:
Take Advantage Of A Short Free Chat
One last tip – check to see if the coach offers a “Free Chat” – also called a “Discovery Call” in sales terminology.
It’s usually a 15- to 30-minute free call to see if there is a good fit.
Take the call to determine if this is the right person to help you! If it’s via Zoom chat, that’s even better as you can read their body language.
PRO TIP: You’re less likely to have a coach want to work with you if you take advantage of the chat and try to get answers and support out of them. This is not the purpose of a “get to know you” call. Remember, they are “interviewing” you as much as you are “interviewing” them.
